Shocking Truth Behind Kohli & Rohit’s Test Retirement – BCCI Makes Big Reveal

BCCI clears the air on Kohli and Rohit’s retirement, says it was their personal decision, not a forced one.

The retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket shocked the Indian cricket fans. Both were expected to make one final appearance in England and help India end their long wait for a Test series win there.

But instead, the two veterans stepped away from the format before the much-anticipated England tour.

Now, the BCCI has responded to all the talk around whether Kohli and Rohit were pushed out of the format. Speaking to ANI in London, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla made it clear that the board never asked them to retire.

“BCCI never tells any player to retire”

Shukla said, “The decision to retire was made by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on their own. It is the policy of BCCI that we never tell any player to retire. It was their call.”

He also added, “We are all feeling the absence of Rohit and Virat. They are legends. It’s good they’re still available for ODIs.”

Kohli and Rohit: A sudden exit from Tests

Rohit Sharma, 38, retired first with a short Instagram story after struggling in the Test series against New Zealand and Australia. He played 67 Tests and scored 4301 runs with 10 centuries.

Virat Kohli, who scored over 9000 runs in 123 Tests, made his decision public with a long Instagram post. He had scored a hundred in Perth earlier this year but had a tough time in the rest of the series, getting out multiple times while chasing balls outside off-stump.

Their sudden exits led to rumours that new coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar may have played a role in their decisions. But the BCCI’s latest clarification shuts down those talks.
