IND vs ENG 3rd Test: England Hold Nerve to Win Lord’s Thriller, Take 2-1 Lead in Test Series
England beat India by 22 runs at Lord’s in 3rd Test, take 2-1 lead in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after Day 5 drama.
England edged out India by 22 runs in a tense finish at Lord’s, winning the third Test to take a 2-1 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
India started Day 5 needing 135 runs with six wickets in hand, but Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer delivered relentless spells in the morning session.
Archer struck early, removing Rishabh Pant with a sharp rising ball. Soon after, Stokes sent back KL Rahul with a delivery that nipped back and crashed into the stumps. At 81 for 6, India were in deep trouble.
The slide continued when Washington Sundar chipped a return catch to Archer, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had shown promise, fell just before lunch to Chris Woakes. England tightened the screws with Stokes bowling a heroic 9.2-over spell.
After the break, Ravindra Jadeja found brief support from Jasprit Bumrah, who defended bravely to score 5 off 54 balls, adding 35 runs for the ninth wicket. Bumrah’s vigil ended when he mistimed a pull shot, caught at mid-on by substitute Sam Cook.
Mohammed Siraj chipped in with a fighting partnership of 23 runs with Jadeja. But the end came in unlucky fashion, as Siraj played a ball defensively, only to see it roll back onto his stumps.
Jadeja remained unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls, watching from the other end as England sealed the win. Archer and Stokes finished with three wickets each, powering their team to a hard-earned victory.
