“Acting Like Kohli?” – Jonathan Trott Slams Shubman Gill for Aggressive Outburst at Lord’s
Jonathan Trott criticises Shubman Gill for aggressive on-field spat with Crawley, says he acted like a "previous captain."
Shubman Gill’s fiery exchange with Zak Crawley in the final over of Day 3 at Lord’s didn’t sit well with everyone.
The Indian skipper lost his cool as he felt the England opener was trying to waste time, leading to a sharp on-field face-off that drew criticism from former England batter Jonathan Trott.
The incident happened when England came out to bat late on Day 3. With six minutes left, India were hoping to squeeze in two overs.
But Crawley took his time, pulling away before deliveries and walking down the pitch between balls. That frustrated Gill, who walked up to him and eventually shouted:
“Grow some f***ing balls,” after Crawley called for a physio post a finger blow.
Ben Duckett stepped in to calm things, but the tension was visible. The over ended with just one bowled, and the umpires called for stumps, ruling out the second.
Trott Unimpressed With Gill’s Behaviour
Speaking on JioCinema after the day’s play, Jonathan Trott said he was not a fan of the way Gill handled the situation.
“I don’t like the acting from Shubman Gill,” Trott said. “As a captain, you set the tone. Pointing fingers and getting confrontational… it reminded me of a previous captain. You’ve got to rise above it sometimes.”
He added that while he supports aggression and competitiveness on the field, there are moments when players need to keep their emotions in check.
