IND vs ENG: England Set Unwanted Record Against India at Edgbaston

England register 6 ducks and 2 centuries in a bizarre collapse against India at Edgbaston, handing India a big lead.

England’s batting on Day 3 of the second Test at Edgbaston turned into a strange mix of brilliance and disaster. Despite two players scoring centuries, England also recorded one of their worst-ever collapses in Test cricket.

For the first time in their Test history, six English batters were dismissed for a duck in a single innings. This includes captain Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir, and Ben Duckett.

At one point, England were in control at 387 for 5. But from there, they lost their last five wickets for just 20 runs, ending the innings at 407 all out. The sudden collapse handed India a strong 180-run lead with two full days still left in the match.

Smith and Brook’s Big Stand

Earlier in the day, India were on top when Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj ripped through the top order, leaving England struggling at 84 for 5.

Then came a remarkable partnership between Harry Brook and Jamie Smith. The duo added 303 runs together, rescuing England from trouble. Brook scored 158 runs, while Smith stayed unbeaten on 184.

Their partnership is now the third-highest for England against India in Tests. It’s also the second-best sixth-wicket stand in England’s Test history, just behind Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes’ 399-run partnership.

What made this innings even more bizarre is that it’s only the second time in Test history that England scored two hundreds and had six ducks in the same innings. They had earlier recorded five ducks in an innings on four occasions, but never six.
