[Watch] Ben Stokes Heated Argument With Umpire Over Yashasvi Jaiswal’s DRS Call on Day 3 at Edgbaston
Ben Stokes argued with umpires after Jaiswal took DRS in India’s second innings, causing a tense moment on Day 3.
England captain Ben Stokes lost his cool during a heated moment in the third session of Day 3 in the second Test at Edgbaston. The incident happened when India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal took a DRS after being given out LBW, and Stokes didn’t agree with how it was handled.
Stokes Steps In to Stop the Review
It happened on the fourth ball of the eighth over. Josh Tongue bowled a sharp delivery from around the wicket that hit Jaiswal on the front pad. The umpire, Sharfuddoula, gave it out immediately. Jaiswal raised his hand for DRS almost right away.
But just as the review process began, Stokes rushed in to argue that India had taken longer than 15 seconds to make the call. KL Rahul, Jaiswal’s batting partner, also joined the chat with the umpires.
Despite the delay and the argument, the review went ahead. Third umpire Paul Reiffel confirmed that the ball would hit the stumps. It showed three reds, meaning Jaiswal was out and India lost the review too.
India Lose Jaiswal After Quick Start
The drama didn’t change the result. Jaiswal had to walk back after a fast start. He and Rahul had taken India past 50 in no time. But his wicket slowed things down for India.
Earlier in the day, India bowled out England for 407 runs. Siraj and debutant Akash Deep were the stars, picking up key wickets and keeping India in the match.
India had a 180-run lead by the time they came out to bat again. Their aim now will be to build a big target and try to win the match to level the series 1-1.
