Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s ODI Comeback Delayed as Bangladesh Tour Faces Uncertainty
India's ODI tour of Bangladesh in doubt due to security concerns; Rohit, Kohli comeback delayed

The highly anticipated return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to India’s ODI setup has hit a roadblock, as the Indian government has yet to grant clearance for the indian team scheduled tour of Bangladesh in August due to a deteriorating security situation in the host nation.
India were set to play three ODIs and three T20Is, starting August 17, marking the first appearance of the senior duo since their retirement from Test and T20I cricket earlier this year.
Both players last represented India in the Champions Trophy 2025 final in March, and the Bangladesh tour was expected to signal their return as key figures in India’s ODI roadmap heading into the 2027 World Cup cycle.
Tour in Doubt, But Not Canceled Yet
While the tour has not been officially cancelled, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly communicated its concerns following government advisories. The situation has prompted discussions between cricket boards and relevant authorities.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan remains optimistic about a potential rescheduling. “We are hopeful of hosting India soon. Discussions are ongoing, and safety remains the priority,” he said in a statement.
Implications for India and Senior Players
The delay disrupts India’s ODI plans and postpones the long-awaited comeback of “Ro-Ko” duo, both of whom have been on a break from international cricket since March.
With this development, India’s next ODI engagement remains uncertain, pending the announcement of alternate fixtures or a revised itinerary for the Bangladesh tour.
