IPL 2025: KL Rahul’s Batting Position To Change Again As Delhi Capitals Eyeing Playoff Push

Delhi Capitals are planning to make KL Rahul open the batting again in the last three IPL 2025 matches.

Delhi Capitals (DC) are planning to change KL Rahul’s batting position again as IPL 2025 resumes. The team will likely ask Rahul to open the batting in the last three matches of the season.

Rahul is DC’s top scorer this season. He has scored 381 runs in 10 matches with a strike rate of 142.16. But his batting spot has changed many times. He has batted seven times at number four, twice at number three, and once as an opener.

Some changes happened because of form issues or player injuries. For example, opener Jake-Fraser McGurk was dropped, and Faf du Plessis was injured for some time. Rahul’s best form comes when he opens the batting.

In IPL history, he has scored 4,260 runs as an opener with an average of 48.97 and a strike rate of 137.15. By moving him to open, DC may push Karun Nair and Abhishek Porel to bat in the middle order. DC will face Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings in their last three matches.

A key question is who will open with Rahul. Fraser McGurk is unlikely to return after the mid-season break due to security concerns linked to Indo-Pak tensions. However, Faf du Plessis may come back from injury and could open with Rahul.
