[Watch] Yuzvendra Chahal Hat-trick Against CSK at Chepauk

Yuzvendra Chahal’s hat-trick against Chennai Super Kings at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium

The 49th match of IPL 2025 saw Chennai Super Kings take on Punjab Kings at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After winning the toss, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer chose to bowl first — and it turned out to be a great decision.

Chennai Super Kings managed to post 190 runs, but they couldn’t play out the full twenty overs. They were bowled out with four balls remaining thanks to an unbelievable over from Yuzvendra Chahal.

Chahal bowled a dream over, picking up four wickets, including a hat-trick. It completely broke CSK’s innings and gave Punjab a strong grip on the match.

When MS Dhoni walked in to bat, Iyer brought in Chahal to target him — a move that worked perfectly. Chahal had already dismissed Dhoni three times in the IPL before. The over started with a wide, but Dhoni responded with a big six over long-on.

However, on the very next ball, Chahal had his revenge. Dhoni went for another big shot but ended up giving a catch to Nehal Wadhera at long-off. This was the fourth time Chahal dismissed Dhoni in IPL, making the match-up a clear win for Punjab.

Next came Deepak Hooda, who could score only 2 runs before getting out on the fourth ball of the over. Then Anshul Kamboj, who came in as an Impact Player for Ayush Mhatre, got bowled on the very first ball he faced.

That left Chahal with a chance to complete a hat-trick.

Noor Ahmad walked in as the next batter. Chahal tossed one full on off stump. Ahmad tried to go big but mistimed the shot. The ball went high in the air, and Marco Jansen ran in from long-on to take a safe catch. It was Chahal’s second hat-trick in IPL history, and the first hat-trick in the IPL since 2023.
