IND vs ENG 2021: 1st ODI – Five Records Broken As India Thrashed England By 66 Runs
IND vs ENG: This was the first time since April 2019 that India won the first game of an ODI series.
IND vs ENG: India, on Tuesday, beat England by 66 runs in the first ODI at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium, Pune to take the lead in the three-match series. Asked to bat first, Virat Kohli led side piled up a big total of 317 for 5 in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, England started on a great note before losing their way and were eventually all out for 251 in the 43rd over.
How did the match pan out?
Batting first, India posted 317/5 on board. Apart from Dhawan (98), Virat Kohli (56) and KL Rahul (62 *) also batted brilliantly. Debutant Krunal Pandya also showed his capabilities, smashed 58 runs and remained unbeaten.
Jason Roy (46 off 35) and Jonny Bairstow (94 off 66) started steadily and attacked to race through to a 135-run opening partnership in less than 17 overs. The duo piled on the runs without sparing any bowler. Jason Roy perished for 46; however, England had victory in their sights since there were plenty of batsmen to come along. But India’s bowlers kept chipping away to leave the visitors reeling. With 94, Bairstow was the top run-scorer; however, nobody else could support him.
Before heading into 2nd ODI, let’s have a look at 5 Records scripted in 1st ODI between Indian and England.
Records Made in IND vs ENG 1st ODI
1. Krunal Pandya – Fastest Fifty On Debut in ODI
All-rounder Krunal made his ODI debut memorable by playing match-winning innings. After the dismissal of Kohli and Dhawan, the stylish all-rounder played a counter-attacking knock. He brought up his maiden ODI fifty in mere 26 balls, the fastest by an Indian on an ODI debut. Krunal also became the third Indian to score 50+ on their ODI debut (58*), batting at number seven or below
2. Virat Kohli Registers 10,000 International Runs at Home
Virat Kohli smashed his 61st half-century in the first innings. However, he fell short of a much-awaited 71st ODI ton, and finished on 56 off 60 balls. During the innings, Kohli also completed 10,000 international runs at home.
3. Shikhar Dhawan’s Unique Dismissal Record
Dhawan was batting on 98 from 105 balls and tried to get to the 3-figure mark with a big hit. Dhawan walked back with a wry smile on his face as he missed out on a much-deserved hundred. The India opener was looking good for a big score but had slowed down after reaching the nineties.
Notably, this was the fifth time Shikhar Dhawan has got out in the nervous nineties in ODI cricket. In total, he has 6 scores in the nineties in ODI cricket, the third most for an Indian player in the 50-over format.
4. Prasidh Krishna Breaks Indian Record With 4-Wicket Haul on ODI Debut
Prasidh Krishna broke the Indian record for the most number of wickets taken by a bowler on ODI debut. Krishna, the Karnataka pacer, finished with figures of 4/54 in his quota of 4 overs. Krishna broke the 24-year record held by Noel David who had registered figures of 3/21 against West Indies in Port of Spain in 1997
5. 12th 100+ Stand For Bairstow and Roy
Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow were off to a flier as the visitors attempted to chase 318. They shared a 135-run stand, decimating India’s bowling attack.
This was their 12th hundred partnership in ODI cricket. They also have the highest run-rate in ODIs as an opening pair (7.04). While Roy smashed 46 off 35 balls, Bairstow fell six runs short of his ton (94).
