‘Fifties and Hundreds Irrelevant in T20s’ – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma’s statement came after India’s comprehensive 50-run victory over Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, remains unapologetic after his dismissal to a bold shot against Bangladesh in the thrilling Super 8 clash of T20 World Cup 2024.
Rohit Sharma’s brisk innings of 23 runs off 11 balls came to an end against Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, whereas Virat Kohli added 37 runs off 28 deliveries.
The rest of the Indian team chipped in with valuable contributions as they reached a total of 197 runs, with Hardik Pandya being the solitary player to reach the fifty-run mark.
Rohit Sharma, in his post-match remarks, emphasized that he values attacking the bowlers right from the start, rather than focusing on reaching 50s or hundreds.
The Indian captain is of the opinion that starting strong against the bowler is key to success, and if every player starts hitting aggressively from the outset, their team can post big totals.
Here’s what Rohit Sharma said in the post-match conference:
“All eight batters need to play their role, whatever it is. We saw one guy get 50 and we got 197, in T20 I don’t believe we need to get fifties and hundreds, what matters is the pressure you put on the bowlers. All the batters from the word go played like that and that’s how we want to play as well.”
Following their 50-run win against Bangladesh, India moves nearer to securing a semifinal berth as they prepare to face their fierce rivals Australia in the next match.
