PSL Owners Clash With PCB Over IPL Overlap
There have been reports that the PSL schedule will overlap with the IPL in 2025.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have clashed with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over a proposed schedule change for the league’s 10th season.
Discussions have been underway regarding shifting the PSL from its usual February window to April-May 2025, following the conclusion of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy scheduled for the same year in February and March.
According to recent reports, PSL franchise owners are not in favour of the idea of their tournament clashing with the Indian Premier League (IPL). This contradicts the PCB’s earlier claims of unanimous agreement amongst stakeholders regarding the schedule adjustment.
The PCB’s proposal aims to optimize scheduling for both domestic and international cricket, ensuring smooth sailing for the Champions Trophy. However, franchise owners fear a significant drop in viewership if the PSL overlaps with the IPL, a much bigger tournament with wider popularity and financial clout.
In addition, reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering organizing the play-offs of the Pakistan Super League abroad, with England being a potential venue. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
