Babar Azam has been on a record-breaking spree, especially in the longest format of the game. The Pakistan captain has added yet another feather to his already bulky cap in the ongoing first Test match against England at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
While Babar slammed another sensational Test century and also completed 1000 Test runs at home, the Lahore-born also accomplished a unique record of scoring the most number of centuries in international cricket in 2022.
The Pakistan captain surpassed English batter Jonny Bairstow to top the tally with seven centuries to his name in 2022. The swashbuckling English batter has six tons in international cricket this year.
Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq and former England Test skipper Joe Root have registered five centuries each while Australian Test opener Usman Khawaja has four tons to his name.
Most Centuries in International Cricket in 2022:
Pos | Player | No. of Centuries |
---|---|---|
1 | Babar Azam | 7 |
2 | Jonny Bairstow | 6 |
3 | Imam-ul-Haq | 5 |
4 | Joe Root | 5 |
5 | Usman Khawaja | 4 |
Imam-ul-Haq’s fifth century came in the ongoing Rawalpindi Test only. He scored 121 runs from 207 deliveries and stitched a stellar opening partnership of 225 runs to provide his team with a sensational start.
As long as the Rawalpindi Test match is concerned, Pakistan finished the third day’s play on 499/7 and is still trailing by 158 runs. The hosts would be keen to surpass England’s first-innings lead when the play resumes on Sunday, December 4.
