The seventh match of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) was played between Chennai Super Kings and Shreyas Iyer led Delhi Capitals at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, in which Delhi Capitals registered their second consecutive victory.
Delhi Capitals scored 175 runs losing 3 wickets in scheduled 20 overs. In reply, Chennai Super Kings could score only 131 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs and lost the match by 44 runs.
On losing by such a huge margin, Dhoni said that their team is lacking a bit of stream in batting.
“I don’t think it was a good game for us. There was no dew, but the wicket did slow down. We are lacking a bit of steam in the batting and that hurts”, said Dhoni after the match.
Mounting run rate is a great concern for Dhoni and team. Indian skipper and former captain believe that a slow start adds extra pressure on the team. He also hinted the comeback of Ambati Rayudu in the next match.
“The run rate keeps on mounting after such slow starts and adds pressure, we need to figure that out. We need to come back with a clearer picture, looking at the combination. Maybe, the team balance will get better once Rayudu comes back in the next game. That will give us the room to experiment with an extra bowler perhaps”, said Dhoni.
CSK’s captain feels that the team needs to get better with their length, line and pace. Also, he hinted that he is not happy with dropped catches.
“There are quite a few things we can think about. We are one batter extra to start off, so the players need to step up. We need to get better with our lengths, lines and pace. I think the spinners have not come to the party yet.
“We are bowling good deliveries, but we are giving away the boundary deliveries bit too often. I’ll ask the players as there have been quite a few dropped catches. The players are not used to play under such lights, maybe the trajectory comes in the way. Now that you have said it, this can be an excuse for those dropped catches”, said the former Indian captain.
Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad on 2nd October in Dubai.
