[Watch] IPL 2026: Phil Salt Pulls Off Stunning Catch to Dismiss Ishan Kishan in The Season Opener

In the opening match of IPL 2026 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Phil Salt produced a moment of magic in the field that left everyone stunned.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru star pulled off a breathtaking catch to dismiss Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Ishan Kishan, with commentators calling it a “Catch of the Season” contender.

The moment came in the 16th over of SRH’s innings, at a time when Kishan was dominating the game. He was batting on 80 off just 38 balls and looked set for an even bigger finish.

Debutant pacer Abhinandan Singh bowled a wide full toss outside off-stump, and Kishan tried to slice it over the point boundary for a six.

What followed was pure brilliance. Stationed at point, Salt sprinted quickly to his right, stretched fully, and grabbed a one-handed screamer just inches above the ground.

The timing, balance, and control made it one of the best catches seen in recent IPL seasons.

The dismissal came at a crucial stage, with SRH placed at 174/4. Kishan’s wicket broke the momentum and slowed down what looked like a late surge.

His innings, filled with eight fours and five sixes, had put SRH in a strong position before Salt’s intervention.

This was not Salt’s only impact in the field that evening. He had already taken two important catches earlier in the innings.

He first dismissed Travis Head with a well-judged reverse-cup catch at deep backward square leg. Later, he took a boundary-line catch to remove Heinrich Klaasen, which needed a long third-umpire check before being confirmed.

With three key catches, including the stunning effort to dismiss Kishan, Salt played a big role in shifting the game in RCB’s favour.

RCB went on to chase down 202 comfortably, winning by 6 wickets with 26 balls to spare. Devdutt Padikkal’s quickfire 61 and Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 69 made the target look much easier than expected.

SRH, despite Kishan’s strong innings, could not maintain control after losing wickets at key moments.

Salt’s fielding effort stood out as a turning point in the match. His catch not only ended SRH’s momentum but also lifted RCB’s energy on the field, setting the tone for a dominant run chase.
