[Watch] AUS vs IND 2025: Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir Hold Lengthy Talk Ahead of Australia ODIs

India’s first practice session in Perth ahead of the ODI series against Australia created buzz online after head coach Gautam Gambhir and senior batter Rohit Sharma were spotted in a long, animated discussion.

The video of their conversation quickly went viral, as fans speculated about their professional relationship following recent leadership changes in Indian cricket. Rohit, who led India to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title earlier this year, was replaced as ODI captain by Shubman Gill soon after the tournament.

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee made the decision as part of its plans for the next World Cup cycle. Since then, there has been growing curiosity about Rohit’s role in the team and his future in white-ball cricket.

This series marks Rohit’s first international appearance since the Champions Trophy triumph. He had been training in Mumbai before flying out and was among the first to hit the nets in Perth. His reunion with Gambhir on the field caught attention as it was their first such interaction since the Champions Trophy campaign.

The practice session also saw Virat Kohli back in the ODI setup after a seven-month break. The senior players’ presence has added experience to the squad as India begin their preparations for the three-match series. The team arrived in two groups and will have multiple training sessions before the opening ODI.

Speaking about the senior players, Gambhir said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo, “Look, the 50-over World Cup is still two-and-a-half years away, and I think it is very important to stay in the present. They are quality players, and their experience will be a handful in Australia. Hopefully, those two guys will have a successful tour, and more importantly, as a team, we will have a successful series.”
