ICC World Cup 2023: Joe Root Becomes First England Batter To Score 1000 Runs Against New Zealand in ODIs

Joe Root has 16 ODI centuries against New Zealand.

Joe Root made history on October 5 by becoming the first English batter to reach 1,000 ODI runs against New Zealand. He achieved this milestone during the ICC World Cup 2023 opener against New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Joe Root, stepping up when England was struggling at 64/2, needed just 29 runs to reach this milestone. He accomplished this feat by pushing the ball through the cover region off New Zealand’s pace bowler James Neesham in the second delivery of the 20th over.

Root achieved this achievement in his 26th ODI appearance against New Zealand. His record includes a total of 16 centuries in One-Day Internationals against the Black Caps, in addition to six of his 37 half-centuries in this format. These numbers underscore Root’s exceptional prowess and his affinity for performing against New Zealand.
