‘ZimBabar’ – Babar Azam Targeted by Pakistan Fans Outside Stadium After Loss to India
Babar Azam could only manage 13 runs from 10 balls against India in the T20 World Cup 2024 encounter.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam faced disappointment on two fronts following his team’s narrow six-run defeat to India in the T20 World Cup. This loss marked Pakistan’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament, putting their qualification for the Super 8 stage in jeopardy.
Babar Azam‘s personal form has also come under scrutiny. While he recently surpassed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to become the leading run-scorer in T20 internationals, these runs haven’t translated into victories for Pakistan, particularly in crucial chases.
Following the match, as Babar Azam was going towards his team bus, a section of Pakistan fans expressed their frustration. Videos circulating online show fans chanting “Zimbabar, Zimbabar” at the captain.
This term, specific to cricket, refers to a player who performs well against weaker teams or in favourable conditions but struggles against stronger opposition or in high-pressure situations.
Pakistan’s qualification path for the Super 8s remains narrow. They need to win their remaining matches and rely on favourable results from other teams. India is currently leading the group A points table while USA is placed second.
