In Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, several houses were buried under debris in a landslide triggered by heavy rains, in which female cricketer Razia Ahmed has died. While five other people are missing.

Giving this information, the officials said that the incident took place in Mawnei area of ​​the district at around six in the morning.

The body of 30-year-old Razia, who has played several national-level cricket tournaments for Meghalaya, has been retrieved from the debris, they said.

“The body of Razia Ahmed, 30, was retrieved from the debris. Five other persons are still missing,” Mawnei locality headman Bah Bud told PTI.

Meghalaya Cricket Association general secretary Gideon Kharkongor said Razia had been representing the state in various national level tournaments since 2011-12. He said that Razia participated in the tournament organized by the BCCI last year on behalf of Meghalaya.

Razia’s teammates have also condoled her sudden demise in the natural calamity.

“We will miss Razia and we pray that her soul finds eternal rest,” cricketer Kakoli Chakraborty said.

Meanwhile, incessant rainfall since Monday has left trails of devastation across the state, a state disaster management authority official told PTI.
