Will Abhishek Sharma Play India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 Match? Suryakumar Yadav Gives Clear Answer
Abhishek Sharma fit to play vs Pakistan in T20 World Cup, Suryakumar confirms big boost for India in Colombo clash.
India have received a big boost ahead of their high-pressure T20 World Cup 2026 match against Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed that Abhishek Sharma is fit and will play the much-awaited Group A game.
Abhishek had missed the previous match against Namibia due to a stomach infection. He was also unwell in the game against USA, where he was dismissed for a golden duck.
There were concerns after reports said he was hospitalised following a team dinner hosted by coach Gautam Gambhir. However, the left-hander has now fully recovered and trained with the squad.
Speaking to reporters, Suryakumar kept it simple and clear. “If Pak wants us to play Abhishek, then done. He will play tomorrow.”
Interestingly, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha had earlier said he hopes Abhishek plays.
“I really hope, we all know he is a good player, and I really hope he plays tomorrow because we want to play against the best team they have, and I really hope he is recovering well and can play tomorrow,” Salman said.
Abhishek’s return is huge for India. He is currently the top-ranked T20I batter and has been in stunning form.
In 38 T20Is, he has scored 1,297 runs at an average of 37.05 and a strike rate of 194.74. He has smashed two hundreds and eight fifties, numbers that show how quickly he scores.
Against Pakistan, he has also enjoyed success. In three innings, he has scored 110 runs at an average of 36.66 and a strike rate close to 190. His best score against them is 74.
With the India-Pakistan clash always carrying extra pressure, having Abhishek back strengthens India’s top order. His fearless approach in the PowerPlay can change the game in just a few overs.
Colombo is set for another intense night as two rivals face off again. For India, the news around Abhishek’s fitness could not have come at a better time.
