Why Shubman Gill Not Playing Today’s Match – India vs South Africa 4th T20I?
India face South Africa in the 4th T20I at Lucknow with a 2-1 lead, as Shubman Gill misses out due to injury.
India face South Africa in the fourth T20I at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, with the hosts holding a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
The series has seen big swings so far. India started in dominant fashion in Cuttack, winning the opening match by a huge 101 runs. South Africa hit back strongly in New Chandigarh, where they handed India a 51-run defeat to level the series.
The third T20I in Dharamshala again went India’s way. The home side chased down the target comfortably, winning by seven wickets and taking a crucial 2-1 lead heading into the final two games.
With just two matches left, India have a clear chance to seal the series in Lucknow. A win in the fourth T20I would give them an unassailable 3-1 lead and take the trophy before the series finale.
This T20 series is part of South Africa’s tour of India and is seen as important preparation for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2026. Team combinations, player form and handling pressure situations are all under focus.
India, however, will be without Shubman Gill for this match. The opener suffered a toe injury during a training session and has been ruled out of the fourth T20I. He is also likely to miss the final match of the series.
Gill’s absence is a setback, especially after India’s strong top-order displays in the series so far. The team management has decided to bring in Sanju Samson as his replacement at the top of the order.
Samson is expected to open the innings alongside the regular partner, giving India an attacking option in the powerplay. His inclusion adds experience and flexibility, but he will be under pressure to deliver in a high-stakes game.
South Africa, on the other hand, will be desperate to keep the series alive. A win in Lucknow is a must for them if they want to force a decider in the fifth T20I.
The toss for the match in Lucknow was also delayed due to fog.
