Afghanistan will take on Pakistan in the opening match of the T20I tri-series on August 29 in Sharjah. The UAE are the third team in the competition, which serves as preparation for the Asia Cup 2025.
This will be Afghanistan’s first T20I outing since December 2024, when they toured Zimbabwe. Pakistan come into the series after a 2-1 win against West Indies but will be without star batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.
Afghanistan have kept faith in most of their Asia Cup squad, retaining 16 of 17 players. Pacer Naveen-ul-Haq has been left out, with Abdollah Ahmadzai likely to replace him. Young spinner AM Ghazanfar is also in line for a debut.
