“We’ve Gone Global!” – Ex-Australian Cricketer Responds to Gavaskar’s Attack on Foreign Experts
Brad Haddin mocks Sunil Gavaskar after the Indian legend slammed overseas cricketers for questioning India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, with Shreyas Iyer’s omission at the centre of debate.
Former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has fired back at batting legend Sunil Gavaskar after the latter criticised foreign cricketers for commenting on Indian team selection.
The debate erupted after India announced their Asia Cup 2025 squad, which surprisingly left out Shreyas Iyer.
Despite leading Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final, Iyer found no place in either the main squad or the reserves.
His omission drew widespread criticism, with many overseas pundits questioning the selectors’ call, something Gavaskar clearly didn’t appreciate.
In his column for The Sportstar, Gavaskar lashed out:
“It baffles me that overseas cricketers, with no involvement in Indian cricket and only limited knowledge of it, choose to enter the debate and create unnecessary noise.”
“Regardless of how accomplished they were as players or how often they have travelled to India, the selection of the Indian side is not their concern.”
Haddin, however, responded with sarcasm. Speaking on the LiSTNR YouTube channel, he said: “I’m glad he’s listening to the show. We’ve gone global.”
The former Australia star, who worked as assistant coach of Punjab Kings and spent the season with Iyer, stood by his earlier remarks.
He argued that commentary is about sharing global perspectives and that Iyer’s exclusion was surprising given his leadership qualities.
“Our job is to give perspectives on what’s happening in world cricket, and that’s exactly what we’re doing. Having worked with Iyer in the IPL, I stand firm on my opinion. His leadership, calmness under pressure, and the way he led by example in crunch moments were exceptional,” Haddin explained.
