[Watch] ‘Technology Ki Galti Thi’ – Shadab Khan Lashes Out at DRS Error in PSL 2024 Match
Shadab Khan slams DRS technology after defeat against Quetta Gladiators.
Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan expressed his frustration over a DRS error in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 match following their narrow loss to Quetta Gladiators on Thursday, February 22 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
In the 11th over of Quetta Gladiators’ chase of 139 runs, Agha Salman bowled to opposition captain Rilee Rossouw. The South African batter attempted a sweep, but the delivery deceived him, prompting umpire Aleem Dar to uphold the appeal.
Rossouw decided to challenge the call, and the ball-tracking revealed a massive spin, missing him outside the line and zipping past the stumps. Despite the confusion evident among Dar, Salman, and Shadab on the field, the decision remained unchanged. If the decision had favoured the Gladiators, they would have been at 82-5.
However, Rossouw’s unbeaten 34 guided his side to victory by three wickets, securing him the Player of the Match accolade. Notably, it was the third consecutive win for the Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing tournament.
Upon careful examination of the ball-tracking animation, the error became apparent as the impact point used for the decision was notably distant from where the ball had struck the pad. In a post-match interview with Zainab Abbas, Shadab expressed his frustration at the apparent injustice.
“I think technology was at fault for this loss. We were shown a different ball as to the review ( the review of Rossouw) I bowled 4 overs as a leg spinner, it wasn’t turning much. This one showed impact outside off and spinning away further. In a big tournament like this, there shouldn’t be such mistakes,” Shadab Khan said.
