The team’s manager, Arjun Chauhan, received an Instagram message from an account named vipss_nakrani. The sender posed as a bookie and offered Rs 1 crore for fixing, with Rs 50 lakh as commission.

Chauhan immediately alerted the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), who set up a trap and continued the conversation. The accused insisted on shifting to WhatsApp chats and promised instant payment in cash or dollars. All calls and messages were recorded by the ACU before evidence was submitted to Lucknow police.

Following this, police registered a case under sections 318, 319, 112, and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, section 3 of the Public Gambling Act 1867, and section 66D of the IT Act 2000. An investigation into the conspiracy is now underway.

The UP T20 League, organised at Ekana Stadium, began on August 7 and will conclude with the final on September 6. Six teams are part of the competition: Meerut Mavericks, Kanpur Superstars, Kashi Rudras, Gaur Gorakhpur Lions, Lucknow Falcons, and Noida Kings.

Coincidentally, Kashi Rudras will face Meerut Mavericks in the title clash on Friday, but the focus for now has shifted to ensuring the tournament ends without further controversy.
