Team India Fined 20 Per Cent Match Fee For Slow Over-Rate in 2nd T20I Versus England
India vs England, 2nd T20I: India have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate for the 3rd time in T20I cricket since the resumption of the sport in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
India have been fined 20 per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate against England in the second T20I in Ahmedabad on Sunday. All the players have to bear a 20 per cent fine for the same.
Javagal Srinath, part of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, imposed the sanction as Virat Kohli’s side was one over short of the target even as they took time allowances into consideration.
“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20% of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” said the ICC in a statement on Monday.
“Kohli pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing,” it added.
On-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan, and third umpire Virender Sharma levelled the charge.
India won the 2nd T20I by 7 wickets after restricting England to 164 in 20 overs. Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur picked up 4 wickets between them. Incidentally, India played 2 spinners, one less than the first T20I in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
In reply, debutant Ishan Kishan and captain Virat Kohli stitched a match-winning 94-run stand as India completed the case in just 17.5 overs.
