Suryakumar Yadav Cleared to Lead India in Asia Cup 2025 After Passing Fitness Test – Report
Suryakumar Yadav cleared to captain India in Asia Cup after fitness test, returning from surgery ahead of UAE opener
Suryakumar Yadav has been declared fit and will lead India in the Asia Cup starting September 9 in the UAE. The 34-year-old cleared his fitness test at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after undergoing surgery for a lower-right abdomen hernia in Munich this June.
“He has cleared his fitness and will be available to captain the Indian team during the Asia Cup. He was at the COE till a few days ago, where he underwent a rehab programme and has now been declared fit. He will be attending the Indian team selection meeting,” Indian Express quoted a BCCI source as saying.
Suryakumar had earlier updated fans about his recovery on Instagram, writing,
“Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower-right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back.”
The star batter comes into the tournament on the back of a strong IPL 2025 season. He scored 717 runs for Mumbai Indians, becoming only the second MI player after Sachin Tendulkar to cross 600 runs in a season. His tally was also the second-highest in the tournament, behind Sai Sudharsan’s 759.
After the IPL, Suryakumar also played in Mumbai’s T20 league for Triumph Knights, scoring 122 runs in five matches as he eased back into competitive cricket.
India will face UAE in their opening match on September 10 before a much-awaited clash against Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai.
