Star Sports Denies Privacy Breach Allegations Made by Rohit Sharma

Star Sports has issued a clarification after Rohit Sharma’s privacy breach allegations.

Star Sports, the official broadcaster for IPL 2024, has responded to allegations of a privacy breach made by Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma on social media.

It all started from a video clip featuring Rohit Sharma in conversation with former teammate Robin Uthappa. While Rohit can be seen requesting the audio to be muted, he later accused Star Sports of airing the private conversation.

However, Star Sports has issued a strong denial, clarifying that “no audio from this conversation was either recorded or broadcast.”

They maintain that the clip only showed Rohit Sharma requesting the audio to be muted and was included in their pre-match coverage due to its lack of “editorial relevance beyond this.”

Interestingly, Kolkata Knight Riders also briefly posted the audio of the chat featuring Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Nayar on social media before deleting it.

Star Sports emphasized their commitment to player privacy, stating that “Respect for players’ privacy while bringing fans, moments of intense action and preparations, sits at the core of this ethos.”

Star Sports Statement Reads:

“A clip involving a senior Indian player and his post on social media have gained prominence since yesterday. The clip, taken during a training session on May 16 at Wankhede stadium, for which Star Sports had authorised access, momentarily showed the senior player in conversation with his friends on the sidelines. No audio from this conversation was either recorded or broadcast.”

“The clip, which only showed the senior player requesting for the audio of his conversation to not be recorded, got featured in Star Sports’ live coverage of pre-match preparations and lacked editorial relevance beyond this.

“Star Sports has always adhered to the highest standards of professional conduct while broadcasting cricket all over the world. Respect for players’ privacy while bringing fans, moments of intense action and preparations, sits at the core of this ethos, which the broadcaster remains committed to.”
