The franchise confirmed the news with a post on Instagram, saying, “The Prince is all set to bring a royal flair to the Capitals camp! We are ecstatic to announce Sourav Ganguly as our new head coach. The Centurion awaits.”

This will be Ganguly’s first assignment as a head coach in franchise cricket. He has previously worked behind the scenes with Delhi Capitals as Team Director between 2018 and 2019, before moving on to serve as the president of the BCCI.

More recently, he was appointed as JSW’s director of cricket, a role that kept him connected with the group’s cricket franchises.

Gearing Up for the SA20

Ganguly will take charge ahead of the SA20 auction scheduled for September 9, 2025. The tournament itself will run from December 26 to January 25, a slightly earlier window to avoid overlapping with the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Jonathan Trott, currently coaching Afghanistan, will continue to manage his national side during the global event, while Ganguly will look to build Pretoria’s challenge in South Africa’s flagship league.
