Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans Out of IPL 2025 After Eliminator Defeat Against Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians knocked Gujarat Titans out of IPL 2025 with a 20-run win in the Eliminator to set up a clash with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2.

Gujarat Titans are officially out of IPL 2025 after a 20-run defeat against Mumbai Indians in the eliminator played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.

MI Post Big Total, GT Fall Short in Chase

Mumbai Indians, after winning the toss, chose to bat first and posted a strong total of 228 runs on the board. Rohit Sharma led the charge with a brilliant 81-run knock at the top.

He got support from the middle-order batters, who kept the scoreboard ticking and helped MI put up one of their highest totals of the season.

Chasing 229, Gujarat Titans lost captain Shubman Gill early. However, Sai Sudharsan kept them alive with another steady innings. The left-hander tried his best to take GT close to the target, but the pressure kept building and the required run rate went too high in the final overs.

GT needed 24 runs from the last over, with Richard Gleeson bowling for Mumbai. The veteran English pacer held his nerve and gave away just 3 runs, helping MI seal a 20-run win and a place in the Qualifier 2.

MI To Face PBKS in Qualifier 2

With this win, Mumbai Indians advance to Qualifier 2, where they will meet Punjab Kings on Sunday, June 1, at the same venue. The winner of that match will play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final.

Trent Boult was economical and picked up two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah got the key scalp of Washington Sundar to shift the momentum in MI’s favour. Despite finishing near the top of the points table for most of the season, GT failed to deliver in the playoffs and are now eliminated.

It was Mumbai’s first win this season against a top-three team and it came at the right time.
