Shubman Gill to Lead North Zone in Duleep Trophy 2025

India’s star batter returns to domestic leadership role ahead of key red-ball season

Fresh off a highly successful debut as India’s red-ball captain, Shubman Gill is set to lead North Zone in the upcoming 2025 Duleep Trophy, scheduled to begin August 28 in Bengaluru. Ankit Kumar has been named vice-captain of a squad that blends international experience with domestic promise.

Gill’s inclusion marks a significant boost for North Zone, although his participation may be affected by national duty. Should that happen, Shubham Rohilla has been designated as his replacement. Likewise, Gurnoor Brar and Anuj Thakral are on standby for Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana respectively, both of whom could be unavailable due to the Asia Cup 2025 (Sept 9–28).

Among the notable inclusions is Anshul Kamboj, who made his Test debut earlier this year in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The all-rounder’s rapid rise makes him one to watch.

Spin-bowling depth comes in the form of Mayank Dagar and Nishant Sindhu, both capable of influencing games with both bat and ball. The Delhi contingent includes Yash Dhull, Ayush Badoni, and Harshit Rana all three currently active in the 2025 Delhi Premier League, ensuring match readiness ahead of the tournament.

In a strong showing of regional diversity, five players from Jammu & Kashmir feature in the squad. Among them is Shubham Khajuria, a consistent opening option, and Auqib Nabi, who finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy with 44 wickets.
