The ace pacer, who finished as the highest wicket-taker in India’s 2-2 series draw against England, spoke about the special friendship he shares with Gill both on and off the field.

From MCG Debuts To Leading Team India

Siraj and Gill’s careers have been closely linked since their Test debuts at the MCG in 2020. The two also climbed to No.1 in ODIs at the same time and have been teammates across formats, including the IPL.

“Shubman and I have been together for a long time. We’ve played India A, made our Test debuts together and also became ODI No.1 around the same time. We have a lot of memories,” Siraj told RevSportz.

The pacer revealed that their bond goes beyond cricket. “We bat at the nets together and keep talking. I keep telling him, you’re my bunny. Our understanding is very easy, and it shows on the field. He knows what I want and what I don’t, and vice versa.”

Siraj Proud Of Gill’s Growth As Leader

While Siraj is not part of India’s T20I setup and will miss the Asia Cup 2025, he praised Gill’s rise as a leader. The young opener, now India’s Test captain and Asia Cup vice-captain, has earned Siraj’s admiration.

“I am really proud of his growth as a captain. Now that he is the vice-captain for the Asia Cup, I would definitely want him to bring the trophy back. All the best to him and the team,” Siraj said.

For Siraj, the England tour was a personal milestone with 19 wickets, including a match-winning 9-wicket haul at The Oval. For Gill, it marked the start of his captaincy journey.
