The Indian vice-captain was briefly admitted to the ICU following the on-field incident. He thanked fans for their support, saying he was “getting better every passing day” and deeply appreciated the messages and prayers he received.

The injury occurred when Iyer dived forward in an attempt to take a catch. Moments later, he complained of sharp pain and discomfort. His vital signs dropped soon after, prompting immediate medical attention and hospitalization.

Scans revealed a grade-two spleen laceration with internal bleeding. Fortunately, the damage did not require surgery. According to the BCCI, his condition has since stabilized and he continues to respond well to treatment.

Despite the setback, fans and teammates have flooded social media with support for the middle-order batter. Iyer remains optimistic, saying on X,

I’m currently in the recovery process and getting better every passing day. I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received – it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” he wrote on X

Iyer’s recovery is being closely monitored by medical teams in both Sydney and India. Doctors have recommended six to twelve weeks of rest before resuming full training.

This timeline means Iyer will miss India’s upcoming ODI series against South Africa in November–December and could also be unavailable for the home series against New Zealand early next year. His participation in future matches will depend on his rehabilitation progress.
