“Shardul Thakur is a bits and pieces cricketer” – Mark Waugh
Shardul Thakur was included in India's playing XI for the first two ODIs against Australia
Former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh made a bold remark on Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, calling him a ‘bits and pieces’ cricketer. It came after Thakur’s poor bowling display in the series opener, which saw him conceding 78 runs in 10 overs.
Shardul Thakur was included in India’s playing XI for the first two ODIs as star pacer Mohammed Siraj rested, but he struggled to make an impact with the ball, failing to take any wickets and conceding runs at a high economy rate.
Although Shardul Thakur had the opportunity to play in the first two ODI matches against Australia, it’s highly improbable that he will feature in the third ODI once Mohammed Siraj makes his return to the team.
Besides Mohammed Siraj, the upcoming third ODI in Rajkot on September 27 will see the return of star players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav, who were rested for the first two ODIs.
