Shaheen Shah Afridi Finally Breaks His Silence After Being Sacked as Pakistan Cricket Team Captain
Shaheen Shah Afridi has been sacked as Pakistan’s T20I captain.
Former Pakistan skipper, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has finally shared his thoughts on the latest developments in Pakistan cricket, where the reins of ODI and T20 captaincy have been passed on to Babar Azam once again.
Following Pakistan‘s disappointing 1-4 loss to New Zealand under Shaheen Shah Afridi’s brief captaincy in a lone T20I series, the Pakistan Cricket Board has opted for a change, appointing Babar Azam to lead the team in white-ball cricket.
In the midst of all the chatter about Shaheen Shah Afridi not being happy with the PCB before making this major call and whispers of a spat with the management, the Pakistani speedster has spoken up. Here’s what Shaheen said as reported by Grassroots Cricket:
“It was an absolute honour to captain the Pakistan National Cricket Team. I will always cherish the memories and the opportunity.”
“As a team player, it is my duty to back our captain, Babar Azam. I have played under his captaincy and have nothing but respect for him. I will try to help him on and off the field. We are all one. Our aim is the same, to help Pakistan become the best team in the world.”
While Babar Azam assumes the role of white-ball captain, Shan Masood remains the team’s test captain, with no changes. Moreover, this means Babar Azam will lead Pakistan once more in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
