Sandeep Lamichhane Denied US Visa, Out of T20 World Cup 2024
US Nepal Embassy has denied visa to Sandeep Lamichhane for T20 World Cup 2024.
Nepali cricket has suffered a huge blow with star leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane being denied a visa by the United States Embassy in Kathmandu. This news comes just days before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 kicks off in the USA and West Indies.
Sandeep Lamichhane expressed his disappointment on social media, stating, “[…] they denied my Visa for the T20 World Cup happening in USA and West Indies. Unfortunate. I am sorry to all the well wishers of Nepal Cricket.”
Sandeep Lamichhane Declared Innocent
This news comes just weeks after the Patan High Court overturned Lamichhane’s rape conviction, paving the way for his return to cricket. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) also lifted its suspension on the player and received ICC approval for his inclusion in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
What’s Next for Nepal?
The Nepal cricket team is currently in the US, preparing for the tournament. They are scheduled to play two warm-up matches against the US and Canada before their official campaign begins. Nepal finds itself in Group D alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.
