SA20 Auction: 541 Players Shortlisted, Not a Single Indian Makes the Cut
SA20 auction final list of 541 players announced with no Indians included; big names like Shakib and Anderson feature
The player pool for the upcoming SA20 2025-26 auction has been finalised, and not a single Indian name features in it.
The auction will take place on September 9 in Johannesburg, while the tournament is set to begin on December 26. This year’s auction saw record interest, with over 800 registrations submitted.
But the final cut was narrowed down to 541 players, which includes 300 South Africans and 241 overseas cricketers. Among those missing were 13 Indians who had reportedly registered, including Piyush Chawla and Siddharth Kaul.
Even Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently announced his IPL retirement and expressed interest in foreign leagues, is absent from the final shortlist.
Global Stars Headline the List
The final pool is loaded with big names. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has entered the draft and could become the first player from his country to play in SA20.
From England, James Anderson, Alex Hales, Moeen Ali, Jordan Cox, Adam Rossington, and Daniel Worrall are among the shortlisted players.
South African stars dominate the pool, led by Aiden Markram, Anrich Nortje, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Tabraiz Shamsi, Keshav Maharaj, and Gerald Coetzee.
Members of South Africa’s Test World Championship-winning side, including Kyle Verreynne, David Bedingham, Wiaan Mulder, Tony de Zorzi, and Dane Paterson, are also in the mix.
Slots and Purse Details
A total of 84 slots are up for grabs across six franchises, with a combined purse of R131 million (US$7.37 million). Of these, 25 slots are reserved for overseas players.
Each squad must have 19 players, including a minimum of 9 South Africans, up to 7 overseas cricketers, two local U23 players, and a Wildcard pick.
