The Joburg Super Kings (JSK) continued their strong start to the SA20 season with a 28-run win over the Durban Super Giants (DSG) at Kingsmead. It is their second consecutive win in this season.
Joburg Super Kings Struggle, Post 169/7
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Joburg Super Kings had a sluggish start as skipper Faf du Plessis fell for just 1 in the opening over. Devon Conway (22 off 19) and Leus du Plooy (38 off 32) tried to stabilize the innings, but regular wickets hampered their momentum.
The lower order provided some fireworks, with Gerald Coetzee smashing two sixes off the last two deliveries to push JSK to 169/7 in 20 overs. Du Plooy was the top scorer, while Donovan Ferreira chipped in with 26 off 19. Prenelan Subrayen was the pick of the bowlers for DSG, finishing with figures of 2/24 in his 4 overs. Chris Woakes and skipper Keshav Maharaj also took two wickets each.
Durban Super Giants Collapse in the Chase
In response, Durban’s Super Giants got off to a brisk start but quickly lost both openers, Brandon King (17) and Matthew Breetzke (7), within the first four overs. Quinton de Kock (55 off 45) anchored the innings with a measured half-century, but he found little support from the other end. Heinrich Klaasen played a brief attacking cameo, scoring 29 off 17 balls, including two sixes, but his dismissal in the 12th over left DSG reeling at 99/5.
The JSK bowlers tightened their grip, with Donovan Ferreira (2/15 in 4 overs) leading the charge. Tabraiz Shamsi and Gerald Coetzee picked up two wickets each as the home side crumbled to 141 all out in 18 overs.
