Rohit Sharma to Leave Mumbai Indians Before IPL 2025? Ex-Indian Cricketer Confirms

Rohit Sharma is likely to be released before IPL 2025 mega auction.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Mumbai Indians may not retain Rohit Sharma ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, as he feels that Sharma may not have much left to offer in the shortest format of the game.

There have been multiple reports suggesting that Rohit Sharma himself is not keen on continuing with Mumbai Indians for the next season, especially after being stripped of the captaincy last year, despite leading the team to five IPL titles.

Notably, Hardik Pandya was acquired by Mumbai Indians before IPL 2024 and was handed the captaincy. This decision reportedly upset several senior players, including Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah.

Connecting the dots, it seems increasingly likely that Rohit Sharma may part ways with Mumbai Indians after the 2024 season. Aakash Chopra’s recent comments have only added fuel to this speculation.

Here’s what Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel:

“Will he stay or will he go? It’s a big question. Personally, I feel he will not stay. Whoever is retained will be with the thinking that he will remain with you for three years, unless your name is MS Dhoni. MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings’ story is very different. But Rohit Sharma at MI? I feel he might leave on his own, or MI might release him,” Chopra stated.

“Anything can happen, but I don’t think Rohit is going to be retained here. I don’t have any inside information, but I feel Rohit will probably be released. He might go to another team via the trade window, which is a possibility, but if not, he could be seen in the auction. I feel his journey with Mumbai Indians is over,” he added.

Where is Rohit Sharma headed?

If Rohit Sharma is released before the IPL 2025 season, there is a strong possibility that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will attempt to acquire him and make him their captain. Reports suggest that Sanjiv Goenka, owner of LSG, is making efforts to convince Rohit to join the franchise.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul, who has captained LSG since the team’s debut in IPL 2022, is likely to part ways with the franchise before IPL 2025.
