Rohit Sharma Provides Major Update on His Injury After IND vs IRE Match

A ball hit Rohit Sharma’s shoulder during the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Ireland.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored a blazing half-century before retiring hurt against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024 opener, has provided an update on his injury.

Team India kicked off their World Cup campaign with a dominant eight-wicket victory over Ireland at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York.

After bowling out Ireland for a meager 96 runs, India chased down the target in a mere 12.2 overs. However, things looked off when Rohit Sharma left the field after being struck on the shoulder by the ball.

Despite the visible discomfort, Rohit continued his aggressive batting, reaching a well-deserved fifty off just 36 balls. Opting for caution, he then decided to retire hurt.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Rohit assured everyone that his injury is nothing serious. He explained that it was just shoulder soreness, and to prevent any aggravation, he decided to walk off the field as a precautionary measure.

“Yeah, just a little sore (the arm). I said it at the toss as well,” Rohit Sharma said.

Rohit Sharma Ready for Pakistan Challenge

The Indian captain also addressed the team’s bowling strategy. While India went in with four spinners, the unexpected bowling-friendly pitch forced a rethink. Rohit revealed that the team is now shifting focus to playing more fast bowlers, a tactic better suited to the current conditions.

“We will prepare as if the conditions are going to be like this (for Pakistan game). This is going to be a kind of game where all XI of us will need to contribute. It was scratchy, but good to spend some time in the middle and understand what kind of shots to play there.”

This strategy is likely to continue for their upcoming high-octane clash against arch-rivals Pakistan, scheduled for June 9th at the same venue.
