After their 39-run win over Afghanistan in the opening game of the tri-nation T20I series, Pakistan paused celebrations to console Rashid. The team offered prayers on the field, with Shaheen Afridi embracing the Afghan star in a moment that quickly went viral.

Tributes also poured in online. Opener Ibrahim Zadran wrote on X, “An elder brother is like a father… Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. My heartfelt condolences to @rashidkhan_19 and his family.”

Former captain Asghar Afghan added, “May Allah grant him the highest ranks of Paradise and bestow patience upon their family.”

Despite his grief, Rashid played for Afghanistan, smashing 39 off 16 balls in a losing cause. Pakistan’s Salman Ali Agha earlier struck an unbeaten 53 to guide his side to 182, before Haris Rauf and Sufiyan Muqeem’s spells dismantled Afghanistan’s chase.
