Ashwin, who will be playing in the unique six-a-side format where every player except the wicketkeeper must bowl an over, expressed his excitement:

“It is a different format, and I am looking forward to playing along with my former teammates. I am also thrilled to compete against the quality rivals.”

The veteran off-spinner ended his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings, the franchise where he started, after also representing Rising Pune Supergiant, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals. He finished with 187 wickets in 221 IPL matches at an economy of 7.2.

Internationally, Ashwin remains one of India’s greatest ever all-rounders, with 537 Test wickets, 156 ODI wickets, 72 T20I wickets, and six Test centuries. His last India appearance came in the 2024–25 Test series against Australia.

The 38-year-old had earlier said he was open to overseas leagues, and his return for the Hong Kong Sixes adds both experience and global appeal to India’s campaign.
