Pakistan team to boycott World Cup opening ceremony in India

Pakistan to skip Women’s World Cup opening ceremony and captain’s photoshoot in India. Team will play all matches in Colombo.

The Women’s World Cup will begin on September 30 with India facing Sri Lanka in Guwahati. A grand opening ceremony is planned at the ACA Stadium where singer Shreya Ghoshal will perform.

She has also recorded the official anthem of the tournament titled Bring it Home. According to a report in Geo News, Pakistan will not take part in the opening ceremony.

The team will also skip the captain’s photoshoot as skipper Fatima Sana will not travel to India. All teams and captains were expected to attend a joint press conference and trophy photoshoot.

The Women’s World Cup will be hosted in India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan will play all their matches in Colombo, including the contest against India on October 5.

This decision was taken ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025 after India refused to travel to Pakistan. If Pakistan qualify for the semi-final or final, those matches will also be played in Colombo at the R Premadasa Stadium.

Pakistan will open their campaign on October 2 against Bangladesh. The tournament will run from September 30 to November 2. It will be the first time in 12 years that the Women’s World Cup is played in India.
