“No Communication Yet”: MCA Shuts Down Rumours on Rohit Sharma’s Domestic Return

Reports suggesting Rohit Sharma’s return to domestic cricket for the Vijay Hazare Trophy have sparked major buzz among fans, but the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has now cleared the air.

A senior MCA official has confirmed that there has been no official communication from Rohit regarding his availability for the upcoming tournament.

This clarification comes after reports claimed Rohit had informed MCA of his intent to play the 50-over competition following the ODI series against South Africa. However, an MCA source told PTI, “There has been no communication as far as I am aware.”

The speculation began after The Indian Express reported that the BCCI and Indian team management had directed both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to feature in domestic cricket if they wish to stay in contention for India selection.

With both senior players retired from two formats, the board reportedly wants them to maintain match fitness through domestic games.

Rohit, who has been training regularly at MCA’s BKC facility in Mumbai, was rumoured to be eyeing not just the Vijay Hazare Trophy but also the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which begins later this month.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy, meanwhile, will be played from December 25 to January 18 across multiple venues, including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jaipur, and Bengaluru.

Rohit Sharma last played for India in the ODI series against Australia, marking his first appearance since the Champions Trophy in March.

After a rare duck in the opener, he bounced back with scores of 73 and an unbeaten 121, helping India clinch the series.
