‘My Dad Used To Take The Game Deep’ – Uday Saharan Credits Father For His Batting Heroics in U19 WC Semis
Uday Saharan and Sachin Dhas stitched a 171-run stand to help India chase 245 runs.
In a gripping semi final encounter, Team India managed to overcome South Africa by a slender margin of two wickets, booking their place in the under-19 World Cup final.
India U19 skipper Uday Saharan credited his father for shaping his refined batting technique and emphasising the importance of staying composed and taking the game deep.
With a daunting target of 245 runs, India found themselves in a tight spot at 32 for 4. But then, Captain Uday Saharan came to the rescue, teaming up with Sachin Dhas to forge an epic 171-run partnership, leading India to an epic victory.
Here’s what Uday Saharan said in the post-match conference on how he restrained himself from playing big shots:
“My dad used to play big shots and used to take the game deep. I just think of taking the game deep. I will hit a big shot in the end only if needed and till the time I am standing, the game will be ours.”
Uday Saharan further admitted that he trusted his ability to see the game through to the end, especially with the batting conditions improving:
“I had belief in myself. I had just one thought in my mind, that I had to play till the end. It’s a matter of just 1 partnership and after that, the game will be ours. I was just thinking we had to stay till the end.”
“The ball was cutting and there was a bounce when I came into bat. Had to be conscious while playing. Couldn’t play that freely. But as the ball started to get old it came nicely on the bat . There was a bit of bounce, but we were set on the crease.”
