Mumbai Indians Women Sign Vaishnavi Sharma as Replacement After G Kamalini Ruled Out of WPL 2026
G Kamalini is out of WPL 2026 with injury as Mumbai Indians sign young left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma as her replacement.
G Kamalini has been ruled out of the remainder of the WPL 2026 season due to a shoulder injury, dealing a setback to Mumbai Indians Women midway through the tournament.
Kamalini was MI’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter and featured in all five matches the team played this season. Her absence leaves a big gap, both behind the stumps and in the batting order.
The 20-year-old scored 75 runs across her outings and was sharp with the gloves. She completed seven dismissals, showing calmness and consistency in pressure situations.
To fill the void, Mumbai Indians have signed left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma for the rest of the season. The franchise picked her up for INR 30 lakh.
Vaishnavi is a 20-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner from Madhya Pradesh. She has been on a fast rise over the last year and is seen as one of India’s most promising young bowlers.
She was part of India’s title-winning campaign at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2025. Vaishnavi finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker and played a key role in the final.
Her form earned her a senior India call-up later in 2025. She made her international debut against Sri Lanka and picked up five wickets in five T20Is, showing control and maturity beyond her age.
Vaishnavi’s addition strengthens MI’s spin department, which already features Amelia Kerr and Saika Ishaque. The trio gives the team more options, especially on slower pitches.
However, Kamalini’s injury creates a tactical challenge for Mumbai Indians. With their main specialist wicketkeeper unavailable, the team will need to reshuffle roles and find a reliable option behind the stumps.
