Most Expensive Player! CSK Star Dewald Brevis Shatters SA20 Auction Records
Dewald Brevis sold for record R 16.5 million to Pretoria Capitals in SA20 auction, breaking all previous records.
Dewald Brevis, South Africa’s young batting star, has become the most expensive player in SA20 history. The 22-year-old was snapped up by Pretoria Capitals for a massive R 16.5 million at the 2025-26 SA20 auction held on Tuesday, September 9.
Brevis, often called “Baby AB” for his stroke-making skills, was at the center of an intense bidding war between Joburg Super Kings and Pretoria Capitals. The Capitals eventually won, leaving the Super Kings disappointed as they lost their top target.
Ganguly Hails Brevis as a Game Changer
Capitals’ head coach Sourav Ganguly was delighted with the signing.
“We’re very happy, I think he’s a very good player. Obviously, 16.5 million is one way to look at it, but for us, it’s about the quality he brings on our pitch in Pretoria. He’s a tremendous talent, and his game has really gone forward in the last one and a half years,” Ganguly said.
Calling Brevis a “game changer,” Ganguly added that he hoped the youngster’s ability to play spin and attack bowlers would make a big difference in the upcoming season.
Brevis Breaks all Records
Brevis had already shown his value earlier this year when he powered MI Cape Town to their maiden SA20 title. He scored 291 runs at an average of 48.5 and a strike rate of 184.18, underlining his ability to change matches single-handedly.
Before Brevis’ record-breaking bid, Aiden Markram briefly held the tag of the most expensive player in SA20 history when he was sold for R 14 million. Previously, Tristan Stubbs had set the benchmark with R 9.2 million in the inaugural edition in 2023.
