Reports from Dubai suggest that Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and chief of the Asian Cricket Council, left the stadium with the trophy after the match.

India had refused to take the trophy from Naqvi following their dominant win, a decision seen as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack and earlier political tensions.

After a long wait on the podium, the Emirates Cricket Board vice-chairman, Khalid Al Zarooni, was eventually asked to present the trophy to the Indian team.

The refusal and Naqvi’s subsequent exit with the trophy added to the ongoing off-field drama between the two cricket boards.

The tournament had been marked by friction from the start, including India’s players not shaking hands with Pakistan after the group stage and heated moments on the field that resulted in fines for both Suryakumar Yadav and Haris Rauf.

Fans at the Dubai International Stadium and viewers worldwide were left stunned as the final podium ceremony ended without the trophy being handed directly to the winners.
