Mohammed Shami took 12 innings to overtake Anil Kumble to become the third highest wicket-taker for India in World Cup
In a historic moment during India’s ODI World Cup clash with New Zealand in Dharamsala on Sunday, Mohammed Shami overtook the great Anil Kumble to become the third highest wicket-taker in India’s tournament history.
With his very first ball bowled in the ongoing 2023 World Cup, Shami struck to dismiss Will Young for 17 runs. This brought his ODI World Cup wicket count to 32, one more than the legendary Anil Kumble.
Shami achieved this milestone in 12 World Cup innings. At the top of this list are India‘s Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath, both with 44 World Cup wickets. Notably, Zaheer Khan reached 44 wickets in just 23 World Cup innings, while Srinath took 33 innings to achieve the same feat.
