Michael Vaughan Takes a Dig at Virat Kohli For His ‘We Have Not Cribbed About Any Pitch’ Remark
Former England skipper and full-time pundit Michael Vaughan have taken a dig at Virat Kohli over the 'we don't crib about pitches' remark ahead of the 4th Test at Motera.
India skipper Virat Kohli on Wednesday said that Team India is successful because they do not crib about pitches, and former England captain Michael Vaughan seemed agitated by the comment.
When asked about the criticism that the pitches in the last two Tests- especially the one in Ahmedabad- have garnered, Virat Kohli alluded to India’s tour of New Zealand last year where the visitors were knocked over inside three days in conditions loaded excessively in favor of the seamers.
“We lost in New Zealand on Day 3 in 36 overs. I am sure none of our people wrote about the pitch. It was about how India played badly in New Zealand. None of the pitches were criticized… no one came and saw how much the pitch was doing, how much the ball was moving, and how much grass there was on the pitch.
“The reason for our success is we haven’t cribbed about any of the pitches we have played on and we would continue to play like that as a team moving forward as well. It has always been the case – spinning tracks come into focus way more and when the ball seams on a particular pitch and teams get bundled out for 40, 50, or 60. no one writes about the pitch.
“It’s always about bad batting. We all need to be very honest with ourselves – what space are we talking from and what’s the idea behind continuing this narrative and what purpose it serves people to continue this conversation which is so one-sided,” Kohli said.
Michael Vaughan Agitated With Kohli’s Statement
Former England captain Michael Vaughan, who has been following the Ahmedabad Pitch controversy, expectedly wasn’t pleased with Virat Kohli’s comments.
Vaughan quote-tweeted a Times of India post regarding Kohli’s statement on criticism surrounding the pitch and proceeded to remind the Indian captain for his comments on the first Test pitch which England won by 227 runs.
“Pretty sure the Groundsman was sacked after the 1st Test because the pitch was too flat!!!!! Isn’t that cribbing about a pitch?? #JustAsking?,” Vaughan wrote on Twitter..
