MI Released Player List Ahead of IPL 2026 Auction
MI expected to release Deepak Chahar, Mujeeb, Topley, and others ahead of IPL 2026 auction to refresh squad balance.
The Mumbai Indians (MI) are gearing up for key changes ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, scheduled in December in Abu Dhabi. While the official retention and release lists will only be revealed after the November 15, 2025 deadline, early reports and squad analysis suggest that MI will offload several fringe and underperforming players to rebuild a stronger, more balanced unit.
Despite a mixed IPL 2025 campaign, MI are expected to retain their strong core of Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Trent Boult. This experienced group continues to form the backbone of the side, but several bowlers and backups are likely to be released to free up purse space and refresh the squad depth.
MI Likely Released Players for IPL 2026 and Reasons
Among the big names on the likely release list is Deepak Chahar, who struggled to justify his ₹9.25 crore price tag in 2025. Though he picked up 11 wickets in 14 games, his economy rate of over 9 hurt MI’s control during the powerplay and middle overs.
English pacer Reece Topley and Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman both played just one match each and could be released as MI look to prioritize fitness and form ahead of the new season. Management is reportedly keen on retaining young mystery spinner Allah Ghazanfar, which further reduces Mujeeb’s chances.
Karn Sharma may also face the axe after an inconsistent season, while Arjun Tendulkar has been linked with a potential trade to Lucknow Super Giants, which could benefit both teams.
South African pacer Lizaad Williams, who missed the 2025 season due to injury, is unlikely to be retained, along with PVSN Raju, who played only two matches.
In the batting department, overseas wicketkeeper Bevon Jacobs and Indian keeper Krishnan Shrijith may both be released as MI rework their backup options. Raj Angad Bawa, the promising all-rounder, could also be released as part of squad balancing efforts, though the final call may depend on auction dynamics.
